Charter One Pavilion

Chicago

What It Was

What was once Miggs Field is now Charter One Pavilion @ Northerly Island. Resting between Lake Michigan and the Chicago Skyline, the 800 seat Charter One Pavilion is located in the heart of Chicago's Museum Campus. The stunning surroundings make this a perfect place to spend a summer night, while enjoying live music from a variety of performers. Events range from concerts to family matinee events making Charter One Pavilion a great new destination for everyone. The pavilion is temporary in structure. Each winter it will be torn down and re-erected in the spring. The site will be transformed into a nature park after the summer of 2009.

What We Did

We provided lighting design services for the park. There were a number of issues to consider including not polluting the sky with light, keeping park lighting off the stage, providing sufficient lighting onstage and backstage to “load-out” the shows, providing maximum return on the investment of the owner in 5 years when they must vacate the site.

Why It Worked

We were able to keep light focused on the work areas of the park and minimize light pollution. This made for a safe working environment in which shows could be loaded in or out almost any time of day.
