Larchmont Towers Clock Face

What It Was

The Larchmont Towers Condo Association wanted to update the look of their clock tower. They asked Lightswitch to design a solution to light face of the clock, without distracting from the beauty of the original masonry.

What We Did

The clock face was solid stone, so it could not be lit from behind it. There was no way we were going to attach unattractive fixtures to the front of the building. In addition, Lightswitch is a member of the International Dark Sky Association, so we were very conscious of not wasting light into the night sky. The solution was fiber optics. We worked with Fiber Optic Studios to create a low profile and brightly even light to surround the clock face.

Why It Worked

As you can see, the clock face appears to glow from within. There is very little impact on the tower from the casing for the fiber optics. Low power consumption, low impact on the building design, and no wasted light made this project an example of an intelligent lighting solution.
