What It Was

The life and career of George Burns spanned one hundred years. His history is told in this play through the use of the spoken word and visual elements designed by Lightswitch.

What We Did

The stage has a very simple look that is dominated by three rear projection screens, which form the back wall of the stage. As the story unfolds, the screens come alive with scenes representative of all parts of George's remarkable life.

Why It Worked

The imagery is all full motion video, beginning with a pan down the streets of New York and ending with an animated portrait of Gracie Allen. Critics have said that the design gives an "enhancing presence" to the people from the life of George Burns.

Say Goodnight Gracie played on Broadway at the Helen Hayes Theater for one year and and did two national tours.
